"Le Maître Ignorant – Commentaires / The Ignorant Schoolmaster – Comments" is a parable regarding authority and education. With interwoven fields, the film deals with the relationship between school education and language acquisition. The interviewees are from different former French colonies in Africa, who speak about their incisive experiences in a Francophone school system. Their reflections are set in opposition to scenes of a French lesson in a bilingual grammar school in Berlin. Through distinct body expression, these pictures demonstrate the far-reaching incorporation of language. The work of the same name by philosopher Jacques Rancière serves as a model for the chapter arrangement of the film.

"Le Maître Ignorant – Commentaires / The Ignorant Schoolmaster – Comments" ist eine filmische Parabel über Autorität und Bildung. Auf miteinander verwobenen Ebenen widmet sich der Film dem Zusammenhang von Schulbildung und Spracherwerb. Zu Wort kommen InterviewpartnerInnen, die aus verschiedenen, ehemaligen französischen Kolonien Afrikas stammen und über ihre einschneidenden Erfahrungen in einem frankophonen Schulsystem berichten. Gegen geschnitten werden deren Reflexionen mit aktuellen Szenen aus dem Französisch-Unterricht einer bilingualen Grundschule in Berlin. Diese Bilder zeigen durch die deutliche Körpersprache die tiefgreifende Inkorporierung von Sprache. Das gleichnamige Werk des Philosophen Jacques Rancière dient als Vorlage für die Kapiteleinteilung des Films.
